 John
and Sandy quit their office jobs in Rockford, Illinois,
married and left for Arizona back in 1979. They traded the
work-a-day world for the laid-back and somewhat lazy lifestyle
of rattlesnake hunters. They hunt rattlers during summer
nights with a 4 foot long "snake-stik" that has
a plier-like grabber on one end and a pistol-grip on the
other. This device takes much of the danger out of catching
poisonous snakes. A valid Arizona hunting license is required, and
game regulations protect some species, and restrict the
others. The Webers catch and average of one rattler for
every 9 1/2 hours they hunt.
Nearly every part of the rattlesnake is used in making the
crafts including the vertebrae, ribs, fangs, skin and rattles.
Even the meat is made into jerky.
